Four Teenagers in the House - OMG!

The twins turned 13 yesterday. I can remember back to the day that they were born. My water broke around one in the morning and we had a leisurely drive down I-10. We didn't speed, didn't panic and even stopped on the way so that Bob could get a cup of coffee. Of course, this was a huge contrast from when I went into labor with Jason & Erika. This time I was barely having contractions and because one of the babies was breach we decided to have a c-section. That was easy and I recovered pretty quickly. It was so nice when they finally came home 10 days later. Jason was 4 1/2 and Erika was 13 months -crazy, huh?!? Hard to believe they will be going into the 8th grade next year. Even harder to believe that I have 4 teenagers in the house !!!

Mothers Day 2010

I spent most of the afternoon painting with my mom and sister. It was really fun trying to create our "masterpieces". Had dinner with Bob & the kids - it was a nice day.

It's Been Too Long

It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year since I have even looked at this blog. Kind of depressing to know that I've had so many things happen but haven't written them down. So many things have changed around the Brown house.

In September, I quit working at the community center because staying at work until 6:00 was too overwhelming for the family. Something had to give and as usual it falls on my shoulders. I did however, land a job working for the school district!! It doesn't pay much but the hours are perfect and the benefits are great! I work 7-3 and arrive home with the kids. This allows me to do all the carting around necessary for the kid's activities. The people I work with are great and I thoroughly enjoy my job. I consider myself very lucky.

Jason had a great season in football and blocked 2 field goal attempts - pretty fantastic! The varsity squad went to the state semi-finals which was amazing and so much fun to support. The Cougars have only been around for 10 seasons and already going that far is quite an accomplishment. Rylan really liked playing 7th grade football and it was fun to watch him progress with his skills. Dylan & Rylan stayed in band and have come so far. Erika had another great year in cheer and the competitions were tons of fun!

For my 40th birthday, I went to Gruene with a couple of girlfriends. It's hard to believe that I'm 40 on some days. I still feel like a young girl but when I look at my body, I know that time keeps ticking. April & Bob gathered up all my friends for a birthday celebration and it was so nice seeing everyone I cared about in the same room.

The holidays were good and we had one of the coldest winters in Houston. It snowed a few times and I loved it! We stayed home for spring break and don't really have any plans for a future vacation. We are still struggling financially but seem to be doing okay.

Jason had knee surgery for a torn miniscus - he healed up quickly and is back playing 100% and enjoying spring football. He's gearing up for the Varsity squad.

Dylan struggles in school and it is becoming more difficult to deal with the situation. I pray that he finally realizes that his education is important.

I have felt very overwhelmed this year as well. Bob and I are hanging on by a thread and are close to accepting the fact that we might have to separate. It's very difficult living together when there isn't much of a relationship anymore. I have given up more than Bob has but that fact doesn't change the situation. I'm not happy. I'm also too scared to be on my own because financially I've never made a lot of money and being a stay at home wife for 19 years doesn't help the situation.

But, I am strong and will figure a way through this mess. Hopefully I will keep updating this blog more regularly.

Unsure

Okay, so I had a friend tell me that I hadn't updated my blog in a while so I decided to get on the computer and try to put into words all the things going on around the Brown house.

I never ran the 5k, very disappointing. I went to see a chiropractor to help and treat the shin splints (he's our training leader) and having to take another two weeks off from running, I fell completely behind. Now it is summer and too hot to train. I don't have a gym membership so I will wait until fall and join the training program again.

Working a full time job, for the first time in 18 years, has been an adjustment to everyone. I really like the job and have always liked working but it's hard to juggle household duties and 40 hours a week. The kids don't mind too much but there are times that they make comments about me not being around and that kind of bothers me. And so far, the scheduling has been pretty easy - thank goodness Jason can drive and has his own truck. Once in a while, though, a conflict arises and I have to ask a friend to help me and I really don't like that. Which is kind of funny because I would always be there to help a friend and it wouldn't bother me at all so why can't I be okay with someone helping me out?

Summer is moving along. We don't have any plans really. Bob is taking the kids camping for July 4th like he does every year. The idea of camping in the sweltering heat for 5 days does not appeal to me at all. I may go up for one night on July 4th like I did last year but we'll see. I did go to the river for a day of toobing - I love the river. It's a completely different feel than the lake - maybe because the water is cleaner - I don't know. Jason, Rylan & I went with the Smith crew and April, Zac & Zoe. It was so much fun and I look forward to doing it again in July and hopefully in August too. I hope to make it a weekend trip next time because it was a little tough driving there and back in a day.

Sunshine Kids Fest 2009

It's that time of year again and our Prudential Gary Greene Katy office threw one hell of a party to raise money for the Sunshine Kids. This year was bigger and better and I cannot imagine how we top it off next year.

The layout of the tent and the stage alone created such a dramatic difference in the feel of the party. Kady Malloy came out again and sang her heart out for us! We had a young lady from our local HS come out and speak on behalf of the Sunshine Kids organization. She suffers from cancer and with the support of SSK, she was able to feel "normal" while going through treatment. It gave her a chance to be around other kids with cancer while attending some fantastic trips.

We were able to donate $30,000 to the Sunshine Kids and in this economic downturn, I thought that was amazing. That's $10K more than last year :)

It's very rewarding to work with a group of people who are all donating their time and energy for the good of others. I am really proud to be associated with Prudential Gary Greene-Katy. If you've never given your time towards charity, try it - you will be surprised.
